About me

[edit]
User:JamieF (second from left) at Wikimania 2024 during the GLAM Global Meetup
Botanical illustrator, Ellen Schutt, on assignment in New Hampshire painting Blister Rust.

I am the Senior Wikipedian and Outreach coordinator at the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Library (USDA NAL). I have been a Wikipedian for nine years and have been the Wikipedian-in-Residence at NAL for 5 years. I am one of the co-organizers for the Wikimedians of Indiana User Group. I was the community manager for the WMF-funded View it! tool which was the newcomer "Coolest Tool" in 2024. I am currently serving as the program chair for WikiConference North America 2024.

My editing efforts focus on agriculture (and all its various aspects), science, STEM, art, writing/expanding information about women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ individuals. I work on projects and attend/assist/coordinate events out of my work at NAL. Including supporting editing efforts at several universities and consulting for Indiana University Indianapolis on the Central Indiana Wikipedia Partnership project. I am also affiliated with Wikimedia DC. I am passionate about sharing the various Wikimedia projects with others and teaching/encouraging others to edit. Outside of Wikipedia, I am interested in information access and librarianship, open knowledge advocacy, agriculture/food systems/agricultural law, animals, plants, art/fiber art, and a smattering of other things. I currently live near downtown Indianapolis, but I've lived in Washington, D.C.; Ocala, Florida; Auburn, Alabama; Charleston and Beardstown, Illinois.

About my work

[edit]

The USDA National Agricultural Library (NAL) facilitates the creation of agricultural knowledge through the acquisition, curation, and dissemination of the information needed to assist not only scientists, but the general public. I support this mission by working to make the holdings of the NAL more accessible to the public by making them available to Wikipedia for use in creating and editing articles. When I edit Wikipedia as part of my duties, I strictly abide by Wikipedia's accepted practices on conflicts of interest, neutrality, and notability. I will always work in the best interest of Wikipedia, because that aligns with the mission of NAL & USDA and I will modify my editing behavior based on any issues brought to my attention by other editors.
