Ask intelligent questions

When asking a question at the Help desk, Teahouse or the Reference desk, please include all the facts needed to answer the question. Give a link to the page you are asking about, or provide context to your question. For example, do not ask "who was president in 1900?" without mentioning the country you are interested in. This prevents volunteers having to ask follow-up questions before providing answers.

Friendly reminder: the Help desk and Teahouse are for questions on how to use and edit Wikipedia, while the Reference desk is for questions about anything else (real world questions).

WikiProject Kentucky and WikiProject Louisville[edit]

Hi, just to let you know, both of the subject projects are subprojects of Wikipedia:WikiProject United States and use its banner. They haven't used their own individual banners since 2011. Because UFC on ESPN: Cannonier vs. Imavov happened in Louisville, it belongs in the Louisville project. The Louisville project is a child of Kentucky's. Hope this makes sense. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 07:53, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

StefenTower My understanding is that unless the topic/article is about US specifically and not about certain states or cities, then US project will be used, if know then the specific state to be used and that is the reason why the state template existed in the first place. US has the sates in project talk page is different from the rest of the world which all topic of the country integrals of which state or city the topic is resides will be only state as in the country which is the only project template we have in English Wikipedia. As a longtime member of these projects, I'm happy to help explain. Many but not all states and cities in the U.S. operate as subprojects of WP United States and use its banner and have done so since 2011. In these cases, they do not use their own individual banner. And many of these old banners have been deprecated. Just because the WP US banner is used, that doesn't necessarily mean the article involved applies to the whole country, but in an ultimate sense, the event we are covering here did indeed take place in the United States. Hope this helps. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 08:13, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
StefenTower What I read years ago of the banner info might be outdated and if the sub state banner is not longer used then, it should not be in the list for choosing in rater tool. Cassiopeia talk 08:29, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is possible that some deprecated project templates in the Rater tool should not be in there. Rater has been known to occasionally have issues with what it lists for selection. As for Kentucky, it appears that Rater continues to include the Kentucky template but only as a wrapper for WP United States. Ultimately we use the WP US template as you will see in any of its included articles. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 08:37, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
StefenTower Since Rater show the states in the list, I will continue to use them as it is not clear which one is deprecated and which one is not. If you happen to come across, then welcome to change. Thank you and Stay safe. Cassiopeia talk 08:49, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
States and cities that aren't in WP US show there, of course. At any rate, I do make changes if necessary to place the correct current template for WP KY or WP Louisville (which is WP US), as seen in this case. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 15:43, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Regenstien (20:53, 12 June 2024)[edit]

Hello, I have not made many edits so I wanted to bring this to the attention of someone more involved in the community, but the Rise section of the Pope Adeodatus II article is confusingly written and seems like an argument which to my understanding might belong more in the talk section. How do I request someone take a look at it? --Regenstien (talk) 20:53, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Regenstien Good day. I have removed a small part which I believe an editor just added on for some disagreement - see HERE. I could not able to verify the info is as per source as the source is a book and not available from internet searching. Cassiopeia talk 12:29, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, UFC Fight Night 244[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, UFC Fight Night 244. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – UFC on ESPN+ 102. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at UFC on ESPN+ 102. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 22:12, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
