Jeffrey Boam

[edit]
Jeffrey Boam (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hi, My name is Paula Boam and I was Jeffrey's wife. It is listed that Jeffrey died from a rare lung disease, he did not. He died from a very rare connective tissue disease, that affected all his organs. He suffered greatly in his last two years of life. Being hopitalized 32 times and in an amublace 17 times. He was never felt sorry for himself, he always tried to be the best at his work and be a great father, husband and friend. He is missed greatly. I just wanted to clear up that Jeffrey died from a connective tissue disease. Thanks for letting me clear this up. Paula Boam — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.176.140.252 (talk) 00:11, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments, and I am sorry for your loss. In order to change the page, it would be best if there was some reliable source that is publicly accessible so we can verify the information you provided, and then the appropriate edits could be made. There is a procedure called BE BOLD but your changed would likely be reversed because it would seem to be an unsourced change. Also, since you are personally connected to Jeffrey, I would recommend you avoid directly editing the article yourself, according to the conflict of interest policy. Tiggerjay (talk) 03:23, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A Google search does not show that Boam died of a connective tissue disease. I searched other data bases and did not find how Boam died. If you have the specific name of the connective tissue disease that he died from, please post. That may help us locate a source to use in the Jeffrey Boam article. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 06:27, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Lest the above comments seem insensitive: the problem is that on the Internet, anybody can claim to be anybody. We have no way of telling that you are indeed Paula Boam, so we have to go with published information, rather than what you tell us. I reiterate that if you can find a published source that says it was a connective tissue disease, that can go in the article. --ColinFine (talk) 14:42, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Towards the end of the article, the "rare lung disease" is indeed referenced as "Variety: 67. 2000-02-07". Unfortunatly, I don't have this issue (or any issue) of Variety magazine to check this. That said, this online page from Variety simply says the date on which he died; perhaps the article can just say that too. Astronaut (talk) 20:24, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have just done exactly that.--ukexpat (talk) 20:40, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great approach Ukexpat -- I also made a similar edit here since you fixed it in the personal life, but didn't catch it in the intro paragraph. Tiggerjay (talk) 04:20, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article that I'm working on mentions the elephant as the symbol of the US Republican party. Would this justify the use of the (non-free) logo? The policy states allowable usage for "critical commentary" - but I'm not sure if this would qualify. The Cultural depictions of elephants article discusses (or soon will) various usages of elephants as symbols on flags, etc., and the Rep. party is mentioned. Would this be justified usage? ~Eric F:74.60.29.141 (talk) 07:39, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Logo: File:Republicanlogo.svg

I'd say it probably wouldn't. Currently, the file is only being used on three articles, these articles only use the file in their infoboxes. Rationales for usage of non-free media in infoboxes can be far broader than rationales for usage of files in bodies of articles. It may be acceptable if the article you're working on discusses the logo in a way that the file would be needed for necessary additional visualization that the article cannot describe in text. Welcome to the help desk. Fair use images are only allowed if there are no free alternatives. On Commons, there are multiple illustrations of elephants as symbols of the GOP that are free: File:JUDGE04B.JPG, File:HarmonyTaftRooseveltCannon.jpg, File:NastRepublicanElephant.jpg, file:Elephants on the windows at TampaBay Social Media Command Center.jpg, File:Bush Inauguration08.jpg. Perhaps that will work as a substitute?--xanchester (t) 08:18, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks - I'll see what I can do with one of those substitutes. ~E:74.60.29.141 (talk) 08:35, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jon Ausman

[edit]

My name is Jon Ausman and I am a Member of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from Florida. Currently I am running for Chair of the Leon County Democratic Party. Earlier this year DarkChaos27, created a negative hit article about me. While I have changed it to a factual piece DarkChaos27 continues to change it daily.

His article of half-truth is defamatory and I am requesting that the page be frozen as is for the next eight days as edited by Ausman1953. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Ausman

link to a line within an article

[edit]

I want to link directly to this line: An alternative to same-sex marriage – round 2

It appears inside this article: Jack Baker (activist)

What to do? Y6f&tP4z (talk) 16:15, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can link to the section using an anchor, see WP:ANCHOR. I am going to change the section headings in the article to simplify them per WP:MOSHEAD. Anchors work even if the section title is subsequently changed, provided that the anchor code is not deleted.--ukexpat (talk) 16:24, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if this is the appropriate place, but would be cool to have a box with abbreviation page info appear when hovering over a link. Could at the very least be an option users turn off/on — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.204.56.15 (talk) 20:23, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Registered users can enable a gadget that does exactly that - one of the many benefits of creating an account.--ukexpat (talk) 20:37, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just to expand on what Ukexpat said, the feature is known as Navigation popups. Thanks Jenova20 (email) 20:45, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

IP users - new messages on talk page

[edit]

Do IP users get a "you have new messages" if they come back to Wikipedia and there are new messages on their talk page (the way registered users get notified)? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 22:01, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, they do. But keep in mind that they might not be on the same IP address. The Anonymouse (talk • contribs) 22:07, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

my birthday and place of birth

[edit]

tried to correct at least my birthday and place of birth, and accurate birth name. (btw, i am not married.)

don't know where you get this info on me, but it would help if i could at least correct inaccurate info, especially since you list enough junk that someone tried to scam my identity, which is how i came about your site and what you are listing. guess inaccurate info worked to catch them, but doesn't do much for my reputation before strangers. (PS: some of info on this page also violate copyrights because it was taken directly from my autobiography, which publishing rights belong to simon/schuster.)216.15.21.7 (talk) 22:20, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Who are you (or rather, who do you claim to be)?
Also, you should be aware that there is never any copyright in facts. Facts are just that, and cannot be copyrighted just by being written down (as your publisher would tell you if you asked). --Orange Mike | Talk 22:28, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
