luther grosvenor

[edit]

your picture of luther grosvenor on his wikipedia website is a picture of bassist andy leigh from spooky tooth, circa 1970-71. luther has just recently(june 23, june 30 and july 2) performed in spain, the uk, and sweden with founder ian hunter and keyboardist morgan fisher as mott the hoople. the 3 performed much from mott's most successful period of recording and touringin 1973 and 1974. many videos on youtube chronicle these recent performances of the 3 concerts as advertised on the mott the hoople.com website. thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:fc90:2340:9070:cbe2:cb50:1d70 (talkcontribs) 24 July 2018 02:39 (UTC)

If the picture we have on Luther Grosvenor is wrong, then be bold and remove it yourself. IffyChat -- 08:29, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I note in passing that Andy Leigh (one of the few Spooky Tooth musicians for whom we do not have an article) is listed as playing with them 1970-71, whereas the photo was supposedly taken in 1969. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.221.82.56 (talk) 16:20, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia api to display content

[edit]

Hi, I wanted to know if there is an api that retrieves content from wikipedia in response to a search term. See example on this search results page: https://apis.origgon.com/syndicate/vivaldi/search?q=cars&src=dweb&type=sboxhome

Can you please help me understand how to get the content - see right rail which displays info from wikipedia onn 'cars'? Is there a ready made api/feed we can use? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Palanonym (talkcontribs) 05:46, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Palanonym, I'm afraid your question is a bit too technical for this page. You can probably get the information you need from the Technical Village Pump. -- Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:34, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

False biography information on Noordin Ahmad.

[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noordin_Ahmad

This is a false biography of Noordin Ahmad. The creator / editor is believed to have a bad motive. The citation / reference are very weak. Please revoke this biography page as it is not credible and inaccurate. The creator / editor needs to have at least a permission from Noordin Ahmad's himself before creating this biography page in which he has no consent about.

I hope wiki will revert on this matter. Please take important note on this.

Thank you.

Regarding Bari investment it is fairly cited. Blanking content without valid reason is a kind of vandalism. Matthew_hk tc 11:00, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@AaliyahStanley: Hello and welcome. Are you a representative of Noordin Ahmad? It is not true that the existence of an article about a person on Wikipedia must be with the permission of the subject. Wikipedia summarizes what appears in independent reliable sources. As long as the information is public and not defamatory, it can be in a Wikipedia article without the permission of the subject. Probably 99% of the articles about people here are without the permission of the subject- just as news outlets do not have the permission of news story subjects to write about them. We do, however, want articles about living people to be accurate, and the Biographies of Living Persons policy applies. If you have concerns about the article content, you need to discuss them on the article talk page, in this case Talk:Noordin Ahmad. The article currently has only one piece of information in it; again, if it is not accurate, please discuss the matter. Thanks 331dot (talk) 11:05, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have checked the updated wiki page on Noordin Ahmad (24/7/2018). The current wiki biography on Noordin Ahmad is acceptable as it has been cited from a reasonable source. Thank you for wiki's cooperation in removing the inaccurate misleading informations from the biography! — Preceding unsigned comment added by AaliyahStanley (talkcontribs) 11:21, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have managed to remove our old Logo, but can’t add our new one? Also the category page for British society members is very out of date and needs updating - how can i do that?

Many thanks Helen — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.141.132.236 (talk) 13:38, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think you posted the above while logged out- please log in before posting. The edit history of the IP address has no other edits aside from the one here, so it is difficult to know what page you are talking about in order to help you. That said, if you represent the organization you are talking about, you will need to read and comply with WP:COI and WP:PAID. 331dot (talk) 13:56, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not remove the "old" logo, rather move it to a relevant location in the article. Wikipedia is far more interested in history than the latest "news". Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:28, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
But logos are usually copyrighted and displayed with a fair-use rationale which only allows one logo to identify the subject of an article. Categories are not limited to current members and category pages can only display subjects with a Wikipedia article. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:11, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Remove wikipedia page about me

[edit]

There's a Wikipedia page centralised around me and my football career. Can anyone remove it for me? It doesn't reflect my primary occupations today.

It would help to know which article you are talking about. Are you saying the information in it is not accurate? If you were once a football player, and you meet the criteria for an article, and someone chose to write one, there isn't anything you can do, as Wikipedia articles summarize what appears in public, independent reliable sources. The only content that could be removed at your request is either private personal information or information that is defamatory. 331dot (talk) 16:57, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If your notability is founded on your football career then that will naturally form the core of the article about you. Wikipedia is far more interested in history than the latest "news". Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:24, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Portal for vaudeville?

[edit]

I don't see a portal for vaudeville. Is it considered a subset of an existing portal, perhaps theatre?

(I had begun posting this question on Portal talk:Contents/Culture and the arts, but then I saw the notice, "Attention Talk pages in this namespace are generally not watched by many users. Please consider visiting the Help desk for a more prompt response or reviewing the Portal guidelines for quick tips.") Eddie Blick (talk) 18:53, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Enlarging font size in wikitable heading

[edit]

Dear experts, I have reduced the size of fonts in a wikitable to 86%, which improves the appearance of the data in it. However, the main heading is also reduced, and is a bit small for my liking.

The coding starting the table is:

{| class="wikitable" border="1" style= "width:100%; font-size: 86%; margin-top:2em; margin-bottom:5em"}

and that's followed by a |+ and the heading text.

Could you please tell me how the heading font can be increased, if that's possible? SCHolar44 (talk) 21:04, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@SCHolar44: Where is the table? You might write style="font-size: 100%;" | before the heading
