[edit]

Could you see if refs on this page numbers 68 and 69 - could be presented "more correctly". They do not seem right to me. I did not do these citations originally, but have tried to add the URL - ALL WRONG!, Thanks 175.32.4.104 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:13, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Srbernadette, you're encouraged to login while posting comments here, so we can attribute these appropriately to you. The citations were okay before you added the URL (in good faith, I should add). If you feel your addition to citations is making them look unstructured, please don't attempt those additions unless you read up on Help:Referencing for beginners and WP:Citing sources. My Name

[edit]

Hi Everyone: My name is included on a Wikipedia page. It's an extensive page with lots of other people that have their own pages. How do I create my own page and have my name turn to blue? Thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.173.68.15 (talk) 01:50, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What is the page in question? Ian.thomson (talk) 01:54, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, IP user. If you meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability (in the special sense we use the word here) then we can have an article about you - but it will not be your article, any more than the articles about those other people are their articles. I'm afraid that, even if you do satisfy this condition, you are strongly advised not to write about yourself. But if you find the necessary independent published sources that will establish your notability, you may be able to persuade somebody unconnected with you to write the article. --ColinFine (talk) 17:19, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Want to change the title of page

[edit]

Hello!

We are trying to change the Title of the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Galeries_Victoria

Can someone help change it from 'The Galeries Victoria' to just 'The Galeries'?

If this is possible to be done myself, can instructions be provided for future reference.

Thank you! 210.8.86.210 (talk) 02:19, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've done this for now. Lourdes 04:04, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect - thank you!

I believe an article has incorrect grammar in Italian

[edit]

The section "Track listing" on the article Canta in Italiano (Astrud Gilberto album) appears to have been copied right off of Discogs (https://www.discogs.com/Astrud-Gilberto-Canta-In-Italiano/master/898277). Could someone who speaks Italian (or Portuguese) fix the possibly incorrect grammar on the article? Shouldn't take more than a few seconds. Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text

[edit]

A few on my sources on Gordon Weisenborn sandbox have been labeled as being invoked but never defined. I don't really know how to fix it and was wondering if I could get some help? I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much!

Jceval (talk) 23:45, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jceval:  Fixed The problem was that with this edit you changed the name of a reference without altering the name at the first use of the reference. Eagleash (talk) 05:32, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Help:User blatantly pushing agenda and using dodgy sources

[edit]

The user FreedomJoe has been aggressively pushing news relating to the arrest or refusal of entry of far-right activists and has been using dubious, when confronted about this he got extremely defensive and refused to listen to myself and another user. Please can the admins take a look and this and make a judgement on this issue. 185.109.94.7 (talk) 09:24, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

185.109.94.7, your complaints here and on FreedomJoe's talk page would be more worthy of attention if they included any evidence of inappropriate edits or behaviour. As it it, you just seem to be saying "here's a guy whose political views I disagree with". Maproom (talk) 09:36, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[are his contributions] Note how they are all about one issue and used dubious sources to back them up before being called out on them and forced to change them. 185.109.94.7 (talk) 09:57, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious sources? Is Newsweek a dubious source? Is Fox New a dubious source? Is the Evening Standard a dubious source? The other party who is complaining doesn't even have a wiki account and we don't know his or her editing history. I don't need to listen to this individual who doesn't know the different between NPOV and using proper references/sources. Editors need to be properly educated before they spout their nonsense in their accusations. FreedomJoe (talk) 10:12, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

≥I was letting an admin decide before I was told that this was not the place. As said on your talk page the later sources were legitimate but that was only after you were called up on it, as prior you used were from sources own by the far-right in Hungary/Slovakia and a small website which I couldn't find anything about on the wiki. Once it was changed to a decent source I left it because it was legitimate (and I haven't touched later edits for the same reason), however that doesn't get rid of the agenda pushing which all of your edits relate to. I wouldn't mind if your edits were diversified but at the moment they seem to be solely about one thing. (also did linking you ping you to here? You arrived pretty soon after I made my comment). 185.109.94.7 (talk) 11:04, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note: This is effectively a content dispute and should be resolved via talk pages. (Preferably the article TP). Complaints about another editor's behaviour can be taken to WP:ANI but I would not recommend that either of you attempt that as things stand. This help desk is not a forum for this sort of discussion. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 10:35, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Global account information disparity

[edit]

Why does Global account information say that I joined in March 2012, when I actually joined in January 2009 - first edit? Chaheel Riens (talk) 12:07, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Chaheel Riens. I would suppose its a bug related to the switch from local accounts to unified accounts that cover all projects in every language. The switch wasn't finalized until 2015 (see also this post on the Wikimedia Foundation blog), meaning that when you first registered your account, it was a local account on the English Wikipedia, and was then switched over to a unified account. GMGtalk 12:16, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, cheers. Just wondered! Chaheel Riens (talk) 12:33, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't really a bug but it can look confusing. Your global account was created in 2012. Your existing English Wikipedia account was attached to the global account at the same time in 2012. The original registration at the English Wikipedia is not meant to be shown there. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:57, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The creation of your local acccount can be seen in the local user creation log: [1] PrimeHunter (talk) 13:00, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I just published my first Wiki Article --- now what?

[edit]

I just submitted my first Wikipedia article on the Skyway 10K. I know there is a review process, but I wasn't given any information on a timeline or who to contact for questions. Can you help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jkclements (talkcontribs) 15:11, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jkclements: Hello, what you have created is a 'draft' in a sandbox in your userspace. It would need some minor refinements before it was fully ready for mainspace. You might consider moving it to draftspace so you can finalise it with less danger of it being deleted; please ask if you need help with that. There is a large review backlog; it could take several weeks and the review system is not necessarily undertaken in chronological order. I have left a welcome message and some useful links at your talk page. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Eagleash (talk) 15:38, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm an experienced new page WP:AfC reviewer. In my opinion a stand alone page for the race is not warrented and the page contains excessive detail about the 2018 race. I've added the appropriate level of detail into the bridge page here, attributing the work to you with a link to your sandbox. . Sunshine_Skyway_Bridge#Skyway_10K. I hope you continue to contribute here. Almost always it is better to expand an existing page than start a new one. Legacypac (talk) 15:56, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Malcom Ord

[edit]

Born March 12/15th 1925, in Oregon as a Latter Day Saint, won the Purple Heart Award for bravery in WW2. Hero to many who had known him. Former Prophet Gordon B. Hinkley, who was a friend to him as well. Wondering if you could add him to the list of famous Mormons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CaseyOrd (talkcontribs) 15:57, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@CaseyOrd:Hello, I'm afraid that the lists within Wikipedia are comprised of those persons who a) fit the specific criterion and b) are the subject of an existing Wikipedia article. I cannot find an article in respect of Robert Ord, sorry. Eagleash (talk) 16:58, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Updating Biography

[edit]

Hello,

I am trying to update a biography (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bin_He) and my edits are consistently being reverted. Could you please let me know exactly how to prevent this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jstieger.3 (talkcontribs) 16:29, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The edits I'm seeing are mostly putting the article back into a style which conforms to our Manual of Style. Your editing history in this article seems to have led some editors to suspect that you have a conflict of interest due to some connection to the subject of this article. Is that in fact the case? If so, our Terms of Service mean that you MUST disclose this COI. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:00, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

2018 Conference USA football season article

[edit]

Can you make the 2018 Conference USA football season article from red to blue because the article was made today. 68.102.39.189 (talk) 18:34, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

2018 Conference USA Football season is now an article, so any links to it should automatically have become blue. Are you seeing one that is still red? Maproom (talk) 19:04, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is still red but needs to be blue right now I hope you can fix the problem. 68.102.39.189 (talk) 20:37, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you are seeing a redlink, it would suggest that it has not been written correctly. Where are you seeing the error? Please provide a link or links. Eagleash (talk) 20:55, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The 2018 Conference USA Football Template is still red and needs to turn to blue now. 68.102.39.189 (talk) 22:33, 14 March 2018 (UTC)68.102.39.189 (talk) 22:32, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That would be Template:2018 Conference USA football standings. The link at the top pipes to 2018 Conference USA football season. Since it's in a template, it is case-sensitive. I moved the page to the capitalisation used by all the other football season pages. Dairy {talk} 23:23, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

where can I find name of a marine who was on the uss Princeton,lph-5 in august and early September of 1963.? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.38.232.30 (talk) 18:36, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This page is for asking for help on using Wikipedia. We can't help you with other matters. Consider contacting the Veteran's Administration, perhaps they can assist. RudolfRed (talk) 19:16, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
We have an article on USS Princeton (LPH-5), and while it documents the history of Princeton transporting marines through the 1950s into the 1970s, the article misses out on the course of events during the year 1963. So yes, what RudolfRed writes above, you could try that. Thanks, Lourdes 03:15, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ref Op Herrick 5 - 39 Engineer regiment.

[edit]

Hi,

Massive error that needs to be rectified before I report it elsewhere. You have listed 53 Field sqn under the combat order for 39 Engineer regiment in Afghanistan during Op Herrick 5-yet 34 field sqn were there also during Op Herrick 5; as we were the ones who built Kandahar Airfield. Can you update this please!?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:1C47:7800:4936:3861:1ABA:273B (talk) 18:55, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is this is about 39 Engineer Regiment (United Kingdom)? It lists both 53 Field Squadron and 34 Field Squadron. Maproom (talk) 19:13, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) You should suggest this on the article's talk page, along with a reliable source for the change you are suggesting. RudolfRed (talk) 19:15, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Brat Cereal

[edit]

My mother invented Brat cereal..I would like to have it added and google-able Brat cereal came about when i was younger. Laura Grode, the inventor didnt have milk in the fridge. I was relentless in my refusal of eggs or any other breakfast item. We lived far away from town at the time. So she substituted IceCream. Slammed it down on the table in front of me.. and said OK BRAT, here is your Brat Cereal.

I was in 2nd grade. 1985 Brat cereal was invented by Laura (solis) Grode. She passed away Aug 2016 Please add this credit to your website. thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.242.138.145 (talk) 21:53, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia reports only what has already been written about in WP:Reliable sources so if you can identify those, we can have an article. Dbfirs 22:27, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
To add to what Dbfirs correctly writes, we already have a Brat diet article, and it ain't have no ice cream or cereal. Lourdes 03:21, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
... so it would be better to add a section to the existing article instead of creating a new similar article (that is, if there are reliable sources). Dbfirs 08:44, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed a cast member's link on the English wiki for Hyori's Home Stay goes to the Korean site. Is that good practice, or okay? Louis Waweru  Talk  23:05, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Louis, per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking#Linking, while this is discouraged, the {{Interlanguage link}} template may be helpful to show a red link accompanied by the interlanguage link if no article exists in English Wikipedia. Lourdes 03:04, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've done that for now in the article. Lourdes 03:27, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
