Nebraska-based IP making less-than-constructive edits to weather articles. Seems to have a similar level of competency as Lokicat, see this comment and this comment.

Also, as a question to the responding admin, clerk, or CU, it's been over a year and numerous socks have popped up over the time period since Lokicat was initially banned; is it time to open an LTA case on this sockmaster? GeorgeMemulous (talk) 17:33, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just want to pass along a note. Even though this might not be relevant to this SPI case; it may be of note for the CU/clerk/admin answering the question on whether an LTA is necessary or not.
  • I have been duped before by previous Lokicat socks (Weather article creator). Even though it my account was relatively new at the time; I had edited as an IP since November 2023, so I was a relatively experienced IP editor when I created the account.

Per @Ponyo: she said and I quote: “No idea, I guess that's up to you. I don't really use WP:LTA, I just review the SPI archives for behavioural history and known geolocation” (emphasis mine); so no real answer from the admin/CU. If I were you @GeorgeMemulous; I’d probably talk to some of the other people who are more familiar with Lokicat’s M.O. (eg. @WeatherWriter and @ChessEric and talk to them about it. Except; their locations don’t match up. From what we know; Andrew5 is from New York (Long Island according to the LTA report); but Lokicat is from Nebraska (Likely somewhere around the Omaha or Lincoln areas based on the geolocation of other previous suspects). I do agree though that it is similar to Andrew5 in some ways. Such as the prolific sock puppets. I would agree that the amount of socks is similar to the “ultimate sockpippetry” that (the possible troll trying to mimic) Andrew5 vowed on Ponyo’s talk page. But the two sock masters are thousands of miles apart; and from my understanding, correct me if I’m wrong, but Lokicat has never impersonated anyone or made personal attacks and death threats like Andrew5 has. Suspected sockpuppets

This IP proposed the creation of separate articles (see: 1, 2) for non-notable tornado events, which is consistent with previous Lokicat socks, and generally edits within tornado and weather-related topics with these patterns of activity. And now you see why I created an LTA page on this sock master. If confirmed, this would be *at least* the 37th sockpuppet of Lokicat; not counting IP socks (which would inflate that number into the 40s at least). And yes, I know that both IPs edits are old; but I think it’s still worth listing because they appear to be sockpuppets, even if CU doesn't tell us anything. I think it passes the duck test with flying colors; I mean, it looks like a duck, it walks like a duck, it quacks like a duck, so that’s pretty strong behavioral evidence even if CU don’t say nothing.
