Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Film

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Film. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Film|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Film. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

No reliable reviews or other sources other than a single production source. A search in Sify ([1]), Chennai Online ([2]), and BizHat ([3]) proves futile. Please find the Kalki and Cine South reviews or redirect to Chennai as all online sources prove to be a description for the city. A WP:BEFORE found a fleeting mention here (சிங்கார சென்னை). I have carried out WP:BEFORE on this previously unreferenced article about an actor (also known as Adamo Palladino), and added two sources. One is a passing mention and the other is an interview with a family member in the local paper. I don't believe he meets WP:GNG or WP:NACTOR. Tacyarg (talk) 04:10, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2007 film hasn't got any more notable in the seven months since the last AFD. Speedy G4 removed without comment, so here we go again. As in the last AFD, couldn't find a single reliable source in English or Bengali (টাইগার 2007 মিঠুন). The only source cited so far that actually mentions the film is a copy of the film posted to Dailymotion. Recently declined twice at draft by same article creator. A case can be made for salting it now, I think. Wikishovel (talk) 17:51, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is a BLP of a filmmaker. I have moved an interview with him from the external links section to a reference. I have carried out WP:BEFORE but have not found sources to add, so don't think he meets WP:GNG or WP:FILMMAKER. Tacyarg (talk) 23:08, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: The fact that this person was interviewed by The Myanmar Times interested me, so I conducted a thorough search for sources, looking up every single movie he was involved with. However, I could only find one review from Variety on The Last Eve,[4] which the subject person made a glancing mention as one of four executive producers. In other words, his entire filmography consists of either unnotable projects or roles that were too minor to be considered significant contributions to the productions. I then saw that he was said to have debuted in Hong Kong action cinema, so I tried to look him up on the Hong Kong Movie Database (where information is generally well-preserved), but I could not even find him listed. With only one interview source and all their film involvement being insignificant, the subject person fails both GNG and NACTOR. —Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 18:08, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Planned film that does not satisfy film notability guidelines or general notability, and in particular does not satisfy future film notability guidelines. Unreleased films are only notable if production, that is, principal photography, has begun, and production itself is notable. This film has only been announced. The four references are all nearly the same, simply announcements that the director plans to make the film.

Reference Number Reference Comments Independent Significant Reliable Secondary
1 India Today Announcement of plan of film Yes No. Future existence is not significant coverage. Yes No
2 NDTV.com Announcement of plan for film Yes No. Future existence is not significant coverage. Yes No
3 Indian Express Announcement of plan for film Yes No. Future existence is not significant coverage. Yes No
4 Times of India Announcement of film, with discussion Yes No, even if somewhat more detailed. No No

This stub does not speak for itself, and there is nothing here that approaches significant coverage of a film or its production.

Additionally, the shooting of the film has not yet started. The film obviously fails WP:NFILM and WP:GNG. The first part of the film was very famous in India, so it will surely get more coverage in the future and will meet notability, but it is currently not ready for mainspace. Nothing changed from last deletion discussion. Notably the film never released (see List of Tamil films of 2011, which lists every Tamil film). Three database sources, two of which are dead. I tried saving the second one but it was just a search for Thoppul and since Thoppul means navel, the search is questionable (commented out since blacklisted). A Google search in both English and Tamil returns nothing [5] except information about umbilical cords. Speedy delete this article, surpised many people edited this since 2012 and did not nominate. Article creator created article with 10+ bad sources. Not notable per Wikipedia:Notability_(music)#Albums since only the music released.

Guess who created the article? Either Thomas Rathnam or his fan. DareshMohan (talk) 06:56, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Redirect to List of Hindi films of 1977 or Delete. The only source I've seen is IMDb, which is as questionable as the current wiki page. Does not meet WP:GNG, no significant coverage in reliable secondary sources. Coverage is limited to promotional announcements of upcoming screenings in a local paper ([6]), awards published by non-notable film festivals and primary sources. Rotten Tomatoes lists no critics' reviews; searching online, I was able to find only this, which is an unreliable one-man blog. signed, Rosguill talk 15:49, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Draftify: It could have been redirected to the director with the local source mentioned above but....the nominator just moved their page to DRAFTspace five minutes before nominating their films....so no choice, if we don't want to editwar and make this very confusing...let's DRAFTitfy this and maybe users can make one or two or three decent pages with redirects and merge of content. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 16:28, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Even taken all together none of the sources really seem viable for writing either an article about the director or the films. The totality of coverage in independent sources across the articles is the local paper announcement and a review of another film in a maybe-reliable indie source ([7]). signed, Rosguill talk 17:15, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Film festivals in Pristina[edit]

Film festivals in Pristina (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

Omnibus article that's merging a bunch of unrelated events into a single "topic" in an attempt to bypass around the fact that most of them likely wouldn't meet notability standards on their own. Essentially, this is a compilation of mini-articles about six different film festivals, one of which does also have its own separate article but the other five do not, and none of which have any obvious connection with each other beyond happening to be held in the same city -- and most of the article's content is referenced to primary sources that are not support for notability at all, such as tourist information guides and content self-published by the festivals themselves, rather than WP:GNG-building coverage about them in reliable sources.
Obviously no prejudice against recreation of articles about some or all of the individual film festivals in Pristina as their own standalone things if they can be properly referenced as passing inclusion criteria, but collating a bunch of unrelated film festivals together into a single omnibus article isn't a way around having to use properly reliable sources to establish each festival's own standalone notability. Bearcat (talk) 15:59, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"hmm....yeah, that's what the page is about" is not a mic drop on anything. It was precisely my point that while obviously that is what the page is about, it is not what Wikipedia articles are supposed to be about, so the very fact that the page is about that is precisely the problem with it. Collating a bunch of non-notable things together into one giant list is not a way around any problems establishing that the individual things would be notable enough to have their own articles. Bearcat (talk) 18:23, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Borderline G11, no indication of notability or significance for this IMAX theater, Sourcing isn't of WP:ORG level depth Star Mississippi 12:35, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: Independent coverage in rather reliable sources, significant and in depth, about this multiplex, and backing the claim that it houses the biggest screen in India! (other sources claim it is one of the world's largest 3D IMax). So, yes, there are various indications of significance and notability and it seems to meet WP:GNG. A redirect to Culture_of_Hyderabad#Film is imv absolutely warranted anyway. Opposed to deletion. (G11? "exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to serve as encyclopedia articles, rather than advertisements. If a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text written from a neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion." So basically, borderline G11 is not G11, if it was just that the tone and content may have been partially promotional, Afds are not for cleanup and given existing coverage, this potential issue was easily fixed; added 2 refs and trimmed the page but this can evidently be improved and expanded, thank you) -My, oh my!
